Consultation status: closed 6 July 2017
We are seeking feedback on a proposal to add No stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) to the intersection of Albury Avenue and Mountain Road in Epsom.
The new broken yellow lines would be positioned on the southern edge of the intersection, directly opposite the existing broken yellow lines.
Why the changes are needed
We have heard public concern about the limited visibility for vehicles turning right from Albury Avenue onto Mountain Road when vehicles are parked around this corner. This issue is especially problematic during morning school peak times.
The proposed broken yellow lines will help improve vehicle accessibility and road safety at this intersection.
Thank you everyone for your feedback.
The proposal received positive feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.
Specific feedback and proposed solution
- A suggestion to extend existing Broken Yellow Lines on Mountain Road in response to increased traffic. We are considering changes to bus services on Mountain Road that may affect the position of the bus stop and have an impact on the broken yellow lines. Consultations for these changes will take place during 2017 and 2018.
- A suggestion to extend proposed Broken Yellow Lines along Albury Road to aid driver visibility. We aim to increase driver visibility along Albury Road while limiting the loss of parking spaces. The proposed Broken Yellow Lines balance sight visibility and on-street parking requirements.
- Support for informal 'temporary yellow markings' on the north side of Mountain Road. AT is not responsible for reported temporary yellow markings on Mountain Road. Potential changes to bus services along this road may affect the position of the bus stop and Broken Yellow Lines. Consultations for these changes will take place during 2017 and 2018.
- Request for additional works including a suggestion to relocate the traffic lights at Albury Road and Gilles Avenue. If you would like your request to be considered for future development works, please provide feedback here.
We expect to introduce this work starting in July 2017 and throughout 2017/2018, subject to any further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will notify all residents in the area prior to starting construction work.
