Why the changes were needed

These changes were needed to improve the safety of this location by allowing trucks more space to turn safely into the driveway of the adjoining property. Currently trucks turning here cannot do so without being forced to cross the road centreline.

Proposal outcome

This project will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning. Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback.

Feedback received

A summary of this feedback and answers to community questions:

  • This proposal received positive responses from community members and stakeholders who supported the implementation of broken yellow lines parking restrictions on Gavin Street.
  • Recommendation to extend the broken yellow lines to span the full length at least one side of Gavin Street.
Parking is a valuable community asset and its removal reduces the local amenity. We only install broken yellow lines where safety is a major issue, such as the identified accessibility issue on Gavin Street. In addition to this, parked vehicles can make the road appear narrow to drivers, encouraging slower speeds which generally improves road safety. Therefore, we are unable to justify adding additional broken yellow lines.
