Gowing Drive, Meadowbank - No stopping restrictions Gowing Drive, Meadowbank - No stopping restrictions

Consultation status: closed 15 August 2017

Proposal reference: BYL-145

We will install no stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) on Gowing Drive.

Why the changes are needed

Parked cars are causing visibility issues and forcing traffic into the outside lane. The proposed changes will create a safer environment for drivers.

The proposal received positive feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.

Specific feedback

  • Concerns about increase in speed of traffic. Speeds on Gowing Drive have been monitored and are below the posted speed limit of 50km/h.
  • Broken yellow lines as part of bus stop markings are an unneccessary loss of parking. Bus stop markings are proposed to get the bus stop to meet the standards. This is done to allow sufficient space for a bus to pull into the bus stop and later pull out of the bus stop.
  • Request to add the broken yellow lines on both sides of the bend. Northern side of Gowing Drive does not need broken yellow lines as the lane width is approximately 6.0m which is sufficient for 2.0m of parking and a 4.0m traffic lane.

Next steps

We will introduce this work in the 2017/18 financial year (starting in July 2017), subject to any further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will issue 48-hour notice to all affected residents prior to construction work.
