Great South Road, Penrose - No stopping at all times restrictions

Consultation status: closed 1 May 2017

We are seeking feedback on a proposal to add No stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) along a section of Great South Road in Penrose.

Broken yellow lines are proposed for:

  • The northern side of Great South Road, between Holloway Place and Simms Road.
  • The southern side of Great South Road, between Holloway Place and Church Street.

Why the changes are needed

Cars currently park on both sides of Great South Road and block the kerbside lane. These lanes would operate better with parking removed, making the road more efficient.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

The proposal received mixed feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.

Specific feedback and proposed solution

  • Suggestion that loading zones should be created outside 641 Great South Road. The indented parking area will be retained as normal parking to facilitate all businesses in the area.
  • Request that parking outside 641 Great South Road doesn’t affect traffic flow so it should remain at this location. This proposal will not affect the indented parking area and the parking will remain available outside 641 Great South Road.

Next stage

We expect to introduce this work by August 2017, subject to any further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will issue 48-hour notice to all residents in the area prior to starting construction work.
