Kay Drive, Blockhouse Bay - Broken yellow lines Kay Drive, Blockhouse Bay - Broken yellow lines
Consultation status: closed 20 March 2018
Proposal reference: BYL-219
We are proposing to install a section of broken yellow lines (no stoppping at all times) along the inner corner between the driveways of 71 and 69 Kay Drive in Blockhouse Bay.
Broken yellow lines will be installed at the intersection, with the existing lines extended out to 56 Kay Drive.
A pram crossing will be constructed across Bellamy Place.

Why the changes are needed
Our investigations showed that vehicles parking too close to the intersection causes visibility issues when turning the corner, forcing vehicles to cross over the centreline as a result.
The pram crossing on Bellamy Place will provide additional pedestrian access.
Feedback
The proposal received positive feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.
Specific feedback
- Request to extend broken yellow lines further north along Kay Drive. We typically only install enough broken yellow lines to satisfy visibility and safety requirements, particularly in residential areas where on-street parking is highly valued. Permitting street parking also serves as a speed calming measure, as vehicles generally slow because the through lane is narrower.
Next steps
We expect to introduce this work between July 2018 and June 2019, subject to further changes in design or funding issues.
Contractors will issue 48-hour notices to all affected residents prior to construction work.
