Why the changes are needed

During peak times, vehicles parked in this location can cause a bottleneck and disrupt the traffic flow. The proposed changes will help to improve the flow and ease congestion.

Feedback

The proposal received mixed feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.

Specific feedback

  • Request to have no parking at all times. Concerns that people don’t observe clearways in Auckland. The clearway is proposed to accommodate the transit lane operating hours southbound during the PM peak from 4pm to 7pm. Clearway will therefore be legalised and drivers if caught will be fined. This part of Manukau is mostly residential and as such it is important to retain on street parking for residents where possible. We understand your frustration with the likelihood of vehicles parked here during transit lane operating hours but the current proposal of a clearway is the most suitable option for this part Manukau Road at this point in time therefore we will not be making any other changes.

Next Steps

We expect to introduce this work between July 2018 and June 2019, subject to further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will issue 48-hour notices to all affected residents prior to construction work.
