Consultation status: closed 15 February 2017
We are proposing to extend the No stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) on Market Road.
Why the changes are required
Parked cars are causing visibility issues for drivers using the intersection of Market Road and Cornwall Park Avenue and extending the No stopping at all times restrictions would fix these issues.
Thank you everyone for your feedback.
The proposal received positive feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.
Specific feedback and proposed solution
- Suggestion that the no stopping at all times restrictions be extended further. The intersection of Market Road and Cornwall Park Avenue is wide enough to allow two-way traffic. Removing more parking by extending the restrictions further would create an unsafe environment as it would encourage speeding.
- Request that the No stopping restrictions be installed at other intersections on Market Road. We have investigated other locations on Market Road and do not believe these are warranted at this time.
- Suggestion to consider clearways on Market Road. We have investigated if clearways can be beneficial on Market Road but have concluded that at this time they are not justified as traffic clears relatively quickly. Removing more parking would not provide any extra benefit.
We expect to introduce this work throughout 2017/2018, subject to any further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will issue 48-hour notice to all residents in the area prior to starting construction work.
