Auckland Transport are proposing to make changes to the loading bay outside number 1 Morton Street.
Half of the loading bay will have no stopping at all times restrictions put in place, while the other half will be converted into a paid parking space.

Currently when vehicles park here they can obstruct the entrance to number 1 Morton Street, However the changes will still allow one car to park while freeing up the access to the building and creating a safer environment.

Feedback results

The proposal received mixed feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.

Specific feedback

  • Concern that there are not enough loading zones in Central Auckland. We aim to provide a balanced mix of parking restrictions in order to meet the needs of all our customers. As parking capacity in Central Auckland is limited, we are not always able to accommodate all requests for additional parking and/or loading zones.

  • Suggestion that if a loading zone is removed at this location, another loading zone should be installed nearby. There is another loading zone on Morton Street that should be able to handle any additional demand resulting from this proposal. Furthermore, the first 10 minutes of the new paid parking space will be free of charge, allowing vehicles to utilise it as a loading zone if needed.

Next Steps

We expect to introduce this work between July 2018 and June 2019, subject to further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will notify all affected residents prior to construction work.
