Consultation status: closed 3 May 2017
We are seeking feedback on a proposal to make changes to parking on Pakenham Street East in central Auckland.
We propose to dedicate one car park near the intersection of Pakenham Street East and Sturdee Street intersection for car share parking only.
This car park will be used by car sharing initiative vehicles, which can be booked in advance and paid by the hour. The parking restriction will apply at all times (24 hours a day).
Two angled car parks will be removed to make way for footpath improvements. Two car parks next to the proposed car share parking space will remain as part of the central city paid parking zone.
The proposal received positive feedback with no concerns raised. After reviewing this feedback and other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.
We expect to begin this work in mid-late 2017, subject to further design changes or funding issues.
Close the end of Pakenham Street East to create more parking.
This is not feasible as buses use Pakenham Street East to travel on to Sturdee Street.
Use electric vehicles as part of the shared vehicle fleet.
Our policy is to support the use of electric vehicles in shared vehicle fleets wherever practicable.
