Princes St and Eden Cr intersection - Minor Safety Improvements Princes St and Eden Cr intersection - Minor Safety Improvements

Consultation status: closed 9 November 2017

Proposal reference: RTV-106

We are proposing to improve and upgrade the existing pedestrian crossing on Princes Street at the junction with Eden Crescent and Shortland Street by:

  • Installing a new pram crossing with tactile paving.
  • Building out (extending) the kerb on either side of the crossing.
  • Removing the existing pedestrian island and installing a new raised pedestrian island.

We are also proposing to install a new pedestrian pram crossing on Eden Crescent (at the junction with Princes Street) with raised pedestrian island and tactile paving.

The existing crossing on Princes Street near the intersection with Eden Crescent and Shortland Street is poorly laid out and the distance to cross is long. Building out the kerbs will reduce the crossing distance. It will also mean cars have to slow down before turning left into Princes Street as it will be a sharper bend.
There are currently no pedestrian crossing facilities on Eden Crescent at this intersection despite a high amount of pedestrian movement.
