Consultation status: closed 27 June 2017
We are proposing to add No stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) around a curve of Hatherlow Street in Glenfield.
When cars are parked on this curved section of the road, there is reduced visibility for residents and pedestrians. Removing parking from this area will improve visibility and safety in the area.
Thank you everyone for your feedback.
The proposal received mixed feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.
Specific feedback and proposed solution
- Suggestion that this is not an everyday issue, it is only happening when a large truck is parking there and the restrictions should only be in place for large vehicles. There is currently no bylaw that restricts parking for trucks/large vehicles only.
- Some people speed on this street and adding broken yellow lines would only encourage those people to keep speeding. We have found that reduced visibility, due to vehicles parked on the curve, is the primary safety concern on this road, therefore broken yellow lines are required. If speeding becomes an issue in the future, speed-reducing measures can be investigated.
- Problems on Rosalind Road and Weldene Road, when vehicles are parked on both sides of the road. This is out of scope of this project. If you would like your request to be considered for future development works, please provide feedback here.
We expect to introduce this work throughout 2017/2018, subject to any further changes in design or funding issues.
Contractors will notify all residents in the area prior to starting construction work.
