Masterton Rd, Browns Bay - Parking changes

Consultation status: closed 14 July 2017

Install a new Pick Up and Drop Off Parking restriction outside Browns Bay School

The proposed parking area would be available only for dropping off or picking up waiting passengers , the driver must stay with the vehicle at all times. The restriction will operate from 8:15am to 9:15am and 2:45pm to 3:15pm on School Days only.

Why the changes are needed

Browns Bay School has experienced problems as vehicles are overstaying the two minute time restriction. AT has investigated this issue and has concluded the current time restriction is not suitable for the requirements of the school, and in agreement with the school management has developed this proposal.

The proposal aims to improve the drop off and pick up of children outside the school.

Feedback

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

The proposal received positive feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.

Specific feedback and proposed solution

  • Request that on one side of Masterton Road there should be No stopping at all times between Browns Bay Road and Miri Road to ease congestion and create room for emergency vehicles. Masterton Road is approximately 7.1 metres wide, allowing for 2 metres of parking on each side, while retaining a through lane of over 2.5 metres, which is the minimum width required for emergency vehicles. There are already No stopping at all times restrictions on Masterton Road where necessary, further parking restrictions would encourage speeding, as parked vehicles give drivers the impression of a narrow road and ensure greater care when driving.
  • Request for additional works. If you would like your request to be considered for future development works, please provide feedback here.

Next steps

We expect to introduce this work throughout 2017/2018, subject to any further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will notify all residents in the area prior to starting construction work.
