Consultation status: closed 24 February 2017
We are proposing to make the following changes:
- Add No stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) along Motutara Road, from Muriwai Beach Carpark to Coast Road, extending slightly into Coast Road to the fire station.
- Install new bus stop road markings and a sign outside 417 Motutara Road.
Why the changes are required
Concerns have been raised after a fire engine faced extreme difficulty reaching the beach, as a result of vehicles parked along both sides of Motutara Road. Motutara Road has a 6-7 metre carriageway and is considered narrow. The fire engine was heading south and with opposing traffic heading north there were often long stand-offs.
At the two intersections (Motutara Rd and Waitea Rd, and Motutara Rd and Coast Rd), restrictions are proposed to address accessibility and visibility concerns.
No stopping at all times restrictions are also proposed within the carpark to ensure vehicles park where appropriate.
- The proposal received mixed feedback with concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, this particular proposal will not proceed to the next stage of detailed planning.
- Request for additional works. If you would like your request to be considered for future development works, please provide feedback here.
The central concerns related to the proposed extent of permanent parking restrictions. We will review the situation in the summer months to determine whether there are other potential solutions.
