Why the changes are needed
These changes are to improve the safety of the intersection, to reduce crossing distance for pedestrians and to improve left turn tracking from Hibiscus Coast Highway into West Hoe Road.
Feedback
The proposal received positive feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.
Specific feedback
- Concern about the impact on numbers 393 and 395 West Hoe Road (light pollution from the new traffic light and vehicles exiting and entering these properties). Increase in lighting here will be minimal and adhere to current acceptable standards. This will be a pedestrian improvement with no impact on vehicles entering or exiting.
- Feedback around slipway removal. This is an intersection safety improvement and has been modelled for slip lane removal. This resulted in no serious queuing concerns and the existing level of service being retained.
- Concern about lack of provisions for cyclists in the design. Unfortunately, at this stage, without significant land purchase, there are too many physical constraints on this street for extensive cycle provisions to be installed. This is something we will consider in the future.
- Request for the safety on the stretch of West Hoe Road from Centreway Road to Hibiscus Coast Highway to be improved. If you would like your request to be considered by us for future development works, please provide feedback here.
Next steps
We expect to introduce this work between July 2018 and June 2019, subject to further changes in design or funding issues.
Contractors will issue 48-hour notices to all affected residents prior to construction work.
