Botany Road - No Stopping restrictions and underpass signs

Consultation status: closed 14 November

We have received concerns from Elim Christian College regarding restricted visibility caused by cars parked next to the school's carpark access. Our site visits have confirmed this issue.

To improve vehicle accessibility in this area we are proposing parking restrictions as shown in the consultation drawing. The proposed underpass signs will improve pedestrian safety.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

The proposal received positive feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed to the next stage of detailed planning with the following changes:

  • Installing No stopping at all times restrictions on the northern side of the school entrance. Please see the updated consultation plan above.

Specific feedback and proposed solution

  • Recommendation to leave one parking space outside 171 Botany Rd. We have investigated the option of retaining an extra parking space outside 171 Botany Road. Through the investigation, we identified that the existing parking bays compromise visibility of vehicles exiting the driveway of the church at the Elim Christian Centre. Additionally, Botany Rd is classified as an arterial road which experiences a high volume of traffic. Motorists exiting the Elim Christian Community have difficulty picking a safe gap in the traffic when exiting the property. The proposed no parking restrictions will achieve clear visibility for road users exiting onto a very busy road, during and outside of school peak times.
  • Suggestion to keep parking restrictions only applicable during school hours. The Elim Christian Community includes a school, a church, a kindergarten and stores. As events related to the community are held at this location frequently, there is constant traffic entering and leaving this property even outside of school peak times. Therefore the proposed no parking restrictions are required at all times.
  • Proposal for the no parking restrictions to also be placed on the other entrance to the school. We will proceed with the implementation of the new no parking restrictions to achieve clear visibility for the high volume of vehicles exiting the Elim Christian Centre.

Next stage

We expect to introduce this work by June 2017, subject to any further changes in design or funding issues. Contractors will issue a 48-hour notice to all residents in the area prior to starting construction work.
