- Install a splitter island with a cut-through for pedestrians to cross the road.
- Widen the road to reduce the crossing distance.
- Install pram crossings with tactile pavers.
- Upgrade road markings and signs.
- Install No stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) to improve visibility.
- Install No parking areas outside the shops to improve accessibility.
Why changes are needed
These changes will provide pedestrians with a safe place to cross the road. The new No stopping at all times restrictions will help drivers see pedestrians using the crossing. Pedestrians will also have a clearer view of approaching vehicles before stepping out onto the road.
The No parking areas outside the shops will allow better accessibility for drivers entering the driveways.
These improvements aim to make the road and footpath environment safe as part of our coordinated plan to develop safer road layouts, promote sustainable travel and ensure ease of passage for those travelling on foot. As part of these improvements, Auckland Transport will also upgrade any sub-standard street lighting as and when required.
