Proposed intersection upgrades will include:
- active warning signs on all the four approaches that will flash when motorists approach the intersection to provide them advance warning of the upcoming intersection.
- road marking changes (flush median) on Porchester Road as well as high friction surfacing.
- existing horizontal bar road markings on Popes Road will also be upgraded.

Why the changes are needed
Popes Road/Porchester Road in Takanini is a dangerous intersection, we expect that this proposal will improve safety.
Proposal update 28 September 2018
The changes will now include replacement of the speed limit sign on the northern leg of Porchester Road heading southward with an electronic speed reading sign (speed indication sign) to better highlight the 60km/h speed limit in the area.

Feedback
The proposal received mixed feedback with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and all other supporting evidence, the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning. This is an interim solution that will improve an existing problem at this location. We are in the process of developing a long term solution to improve this intersection and will consult you when the proposal is refined.
Specific feedback
- Request for more footpaths to be installed. We are currently investigating the feasibility of signalising the intersection and the consulted proposal is an interim treatment before traffic signal could be installed at the intersection. New footpaths will be included as part of the traffic signal project.
- Request to have signals on the intersections rather than having these signs. We are currently investigating the feasibility of signalising the intersection and the consulted proposal is an interim treatment before traffic signal could be installed at the intersection.
