The Rail and Maritime Trade Union (RMTU) has given notice of its intent to commence industrial action from Monday 26 February to Friday 16 March.

Auckland Transport and Transdev have developed a temporary timetable to minimise disruption and provide consistent rail services on these lines during this period.

Customers can expect Southern, Western and Eastern line weekday peak train services at 20-minute intervals, with inter-peak and off-peak services running as normal. Many trains on these services will run with six cars, which can hold 900 passengers, to help reduce impact.

Onehunga and Pukekohe weekday train services and weekend train services across all lines will remain on their usual timetable.

Ferry and bus services will operate as normal.

Bethells Road, Waitakere - No stopping at all times restrictions Bethells Road, Waitakere - No stopping at all times restrictions

Consultation status: closed 9 December 2016

We are looking to extend the existing No stopping at all times restrictions (broken yellow lines) on Bethells Road, Waitakere, west of Waitakere Primary School.

Why changes are required

To address accessibility issues on Bethells Road west of Waitakere Primary School. During school opening and closing times, vehicles parked in this area often leave insufficient space for emergency vehicles to proceed.

It was also observed that the parking in this area can result in other vehicles reversing a significant way back to let oncoming traffic through. Extending the existing No stopping at all times restrictions would clear safety concerns for the many school children and parents crossing the road.

Feedback results

The proposal received positive feedback, with some concerns raised by respondents. After reviewing this feedback and other supporting evidence the proposal will proceed without changes to the next stage of detailed planning.

We expect to start this work by June 2017, subject to any further design changes or funding issues.

Contractors will issue 48-hour notice to all affected residents prior to construction work.

Specific feedback

The proposed layout will move the issue further down the road

The broken yellow lines are proposed for the narrowest section of the road, where the majority of congestion occurs. The road is wider further Bethells Road where cars parked on both sides will still allow other vehicles to pass through. We do understand that the parking issue at this location is very difficult to mitigate completely.

Request for parking restrictions on the other side of the road

The broken yellow lines will limit parking at the narrow section of the road to one side only. This will leave sufficient space for vehicles to get through.

Adding parking restrictions to the other side of the road would lead to a significant loss of parking in an area where parking is in high demand before and after school. Further restrictions could result in parents unable to park, or ignoring the no parking restrictions altogether.

Concern about cars parking too close to driveways during school functions

It is illegal to park within one meter of a driveway. Please contact our parking enforcement team on 09 355 3553 to report any vehicles parked too close to a driveway.

Request for additional work including reducing the speed limit or for kerb and channelling on Bethells Road

These requests are not within the scope of this project. Please use our feedback or report a problem form to submit a request for future work.
