Work has started on the new bus lane being established in Fanshawe Street to cater for the majority of people who travel by bus along the corridor at peak times.
Auckland Transport Group Manager Public Transport Mark Lambert says the work is being done between the Easter and ANZAC weekends to minimise disruption to road users, with the work to occur overnight between 10pm and 5am.
“Road users will need to take care but we expect traffic to be minimal during those hours and because many people are likely to take advantage of the holidays at both ends of the week and be away midweek as well.”
The new bus lane on the west side of Fanshawe Street will speed up the shore bound journey for the 70% of people who travel on Fanshawe Street at peak on a bus.
Once in place the bus lanes will operate kerbside for most of Fanshawe Street except between Albert and Hobson Streets where it will be in the second lane from the kerb to allow for the significant left turn drivers takes toward the southern and western motorway entrances.
