Media release: 8 March 2013
Auckland is set for one of its busiest weekends of the year with big crowds expected at a number of major events.
The crowds will mean that the roads and public transport will be busier than usual as Aucklanders take advantage of the continuing fine weather.
Auckland Transport wants people to look at public transport options or sharing a ride with friends or neighbours as they head out to enjoy the weekend.
Huge crowds are expected at Pasifika at Western Springs on Saturday and Sunday. Free shuttle buses will run from Rossgrove Terrace and there will be a free park-and-ride from Unitec on Carrington Road.
Other events this weekend include Round the Bays on Sunday morning, the Kumeu Show, the Auckland Arts Festival, concerts at Vector Arena on Saturday and Sunday nights, the World Softball Champs at Rosedale Park in Albany and the Blues Rugby match at Eden Park on Sunday afternoon.
Tickets to the rugby include free transport on event buses and trains. Travel on trains is included from 3 hours prior to the start of the game, until the end of service. Additional services will operate to and from Kingsland Station. Special event buses will also operate to and from Eden Park. They will run from Northern Busway stations, Takapuna, Manukau, Pakuranga, Botany, Newmarket and Mt Eden.
Wherever you’re heading this weekend, expect delays, plan to travel early and please be patient.
