Locals are being asked if they want residential parking zones in Newmarket and Remuera.
The Remuera residential parking zone is proposed to cover Middleton Road, Ada Street, Mamie Street, Lauriston Avenue, and Belmont Terrace. The Newmarket zone would cover Seccombes Road, Maungawhau Road and Almorah Place.
Auckland Transport (AT) received several requests from the community to create the two zones. There is strong demand for on-street commuter parking in these areas, which can make it difficult for residents, business customers and casual residential visitors to find a park.
John Strawbridge, AT’s Group Manager for Parking Services, says AT is keen to see if there is wider community support for the residential parking zones.
“Residential parking zones ensure there is on-street parking available for a wider range of users. The proposed two-hour time restriction for non-permit holders supports parking for business customers and casual residential visitors, while preventing commuter parking.
“It’s essential that we hear from the people who are most affected by the proposals, so we are encouraging the community to tell us what they think.”
A residential parking zone is a collection of residential streets with parking restrictions – allowing short-term parking for visitors and all-day parking for coupon and permit holders.
A time restriction of two hours (P120), Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm (excluding public holidays and weekends) is proposed for the Remuera residential parking zone. The Newmarket residential parking zone is proposed to operate Monday to Sunday.
Public feedback is open until Sunday 24 November 2019.
