Upgrade of the Stanley Bay Wharf shelter

Artist's depiction of the upgrades to Stanley Bay Wharf shelterAuckland Transport has unveiled plans for the upgrade of the Stanley Bay Wharf shelter meaning improved facilities for ferry passengers.

After considering all maintenance and renewal costs it has been decided that replacing the shelter is more cost effective than repairing it.

Auckland Transport is well aware of the iconic nature of the existing shelter and how the local community feels about it. For this reason the brief to the architects was to ensure that the spirit of the old shelter is captured in the design of the new one.

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board chair Chris Darby says the local community will appreciate the chance to look over the plans which are going on display at Devonport Library, Stanley Bay old wharf and Devonport wharf.

Mr Darby says, "Hats off to Auckland Transport for its efforts to turn the dilapidated ferry terminal into a fully functional community facility of which we can all be proud. In the past year Auckland Transport has pulled out the stops to provide; a modern berthing pontoon, upgraded approach road and priority parking for commuters.”
