AT HOP WiFi

You can enjoy free WiFi at train stations and selected bus stations and ferry terminals across Auckland.

A 10-minute trial is available to all public transport customers and if you’re a registered AT HOP user, you can enjoy 1GB per day of free WiFi.

How to use AT HOP WiFi

AT HOP WiFi is a wireless broadband service that lets you access the Internet at participating Auckland Transport location access points (hotspots). Once you’ve connected to a hotspot, your device will automatically know when you’re near another hotspot on the AT HOP WiFi network, and connect to it when you’re in range.

AT HOP WiFi is powered by Spark and available for use on any mobile device.

What you need to be able to use AT HOP WiFi

To access 1GB of AT HOP WiFi you need to have:

  1. a valid AT HOP card,
  2. registered your AT HOP card,
  3. topped up or used your AT HOP card within the last 5 days, excluding the day when the WiFi is used,
  4. an account balance on your AT HOP card that is greater than $0.

Steps to connect to the AT HOP WiFi

If you are one of the AT HOP WiFi locations then turn on your device’s WiFi and connect to the AT HOP WiFi network.

Open your browser and select a new page or browse to any site. You’ll be prompted with the option of selecting a 10 minute trial or logging in with the last 7 numbers of your registered AT HOP card.

Connection issues

It may take up to 48 hours for your WiFi access to be restored from the time of top up and/or travel if:

  • your AT HOP card had a negative balance; and/or
  • you had not used your AT HOP card within the last 5 days.

WiFi signal issues

If you’re not getting a WiFi signal or can’t connect:

  • Check to see if AT HOP Wi-Fi is offered at your location.
  • Make sure wireless is enabled on your device.
  • Restart your device.
  • Refresh the list of available WiFi networks.
  • Make sure ‘flight mode’ is turned off on your device.
  • Make sure you are in the main area of the train station, bus or ferry terminal to get the best coverage.

WiFi hotspot security

WiFi hotspots are not as secure as fixed or mobile broadband services. If you’re using a laptop or similar to access the service, we suggest you have up-to-date firewall and anti-virus software installed on your device. If you’re using the service to transmit private or sensitive information, consider using services that offer privacy and confidentiality, such as web services/sites that use SSL.
