Anzac Day Dawn and Civic Services Anzac Day Dawn and Civic Services

Catch public transport to the Anzac Day Dawn Service to honour and remember New Zealanders who have served, and commemorate the loss of life and of innocence at the Gallipolli landings.

Date: Thursday 25 April 2019
Place: Auckland War Memorial Museum, Auckland Domain
Times: 6am (Veterans assemble at 4.30am in museum underground carpark. Procession at 5:43am along Cenotaph Road to Court of Honour)

Free travel all day on Thursday 25 April for SuperGold and Veteran’s SuperGold card holders, plus free travel for uniformed servicemen and women and retired services personnel with RSA membership card. This applies across AT Metro bus, rail and ferry services including SkyBus.

SeaLink ferry services - vehicle transport to Waiheke Island and services to Great Barrier Island are not included in the free travel offer.


Bus

A Sunday and Public Holiday timetable operates for all bus services with additional early morning Northern Express services, an additional 781 service, and a post event return shuttle to the City provided for the Anzac Day Dawn service.

Northern Express

Additional Northern Express services will travel from Albany Station to the Auckland Domain via the Northern Busway.

Buses depart Albany Station at 4:15am, 4:30am and 4:45am stopping at all stations along the Northern Busway. Services will pick up at Britomart stop 7018 on Customs Street East at approximately 4:40am, 4:55am and 5:10am. 
The bus will travel via Customs Street, Beach Road, Anzac Avenue, Symonds Street, Grafton Bridge, Park Road picking up at bus stops along the route, finishing at stop 7228 on Park Road near Auckland Hospital.

The bus destination sign will say ‘Anzac Day Bus

Passengers should signal the driver and make themselves visible in the dark.

Normal timetabled services NX1 start from Albany at 6:30am or NX2 at 6am. 

Additional 781 Service

An additional 781 service will travel from Mission Bay to the Auckland Domain.

Additional 781 bus will depart from stop 7244, Mission Bay Bus Stop D at 4:40am stopping at all normal 781 stops.  
The bus will travel via Kepa Road, Remuera Road, Newmarket and Parnell Road picking up at bus stops along the route, finishing at stop 7197 on Parnell Road near Auckland Domain. 

The bus destination sign will say ‘781 Anzac’ and will be operated by Brougham.

The first 781 to Mission Bay will be operating an extended route which will leave from stop 7198, 540 Parnell Road, and stop at all normal 781 stops.

Passengers should signal the driver and make themselves visible in the dark. 

Normal timetabled services start from Mission Bay at 6am. 

Post Event Shuttle

Park Road to Customs Street from 6:30am to 7:30am.

A Shuttle service will operate from stop 7227, Park Road opposite Hospital. It will travel via Park Road, Grafton Bridge, Symonds Street, Anzac Avenue, Beach Road, and Customs Street, picking up at bus stops along the route, and finishing at stop 7019 on Customs Street East.

Buses will run continuously from Park Road from end of the Dawn Service (6:30am) until approximately 7:30am.

This service is operated by Ritchies and Broughams.


Train

A normal Sunday and Public Holiday timetable will operate for train with some early morning trains provided on all lines for the Anzac Day Dawn service. 

Western Line

Western Line train services travel to Grafton station on Park Road, which is a 15 to 20 minute walk to the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

An early train will be departing from Swanson at 4:25am to Grafton (terminating at Newmarket) and stopping at all stations in between.

Southern/Eastern Line (including Onehunga Line)

The closest station to the Auckland Domain is the Newmarket station, which is a 15 to 20 minute walk to the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

Early trains will be departing from the following stations:

  • Onehunga at 4:40am,
  • Papakura at 4:17am,
  • Manukau at 4:20am and travel direct from Orakei to Newmarket,
  • Britomart at 5:15am and 5:25am (will not stop at Parnell).

These trains will travel to Newmarket station (including the 4.20am Eastern Line train from Manukau station).

Ferry

A Sunday and Public Holiday timetable will be in place for all ferry services with an early morning service departing Devonport at 5am
