Strike action scheduled for next week involving drivers for NZ Bus has been withdrawn by First Union and Tramways Union.

However, drivers will meet on Tuesday (24 April) to ratify the settlement to the dispute. This meeting means NZ Bus services will be cancelled after morning peak. Services on Tuesday will be disrupted between 9:30am and 2:30pm, some services immediately before or after this could also be affected.

Bus services run by other operators are not affected and train and ferry services will run as usual on Tuesday.

We’re making improvements to the Journey planner.

The journey planner is designed to help you find public transport services to and from your destination. Many users expressed a desire for more flexibility and ways to refine the results they receive to suit their particular needs. Others simply wanted more information to make a decision.

We’ve attempted to incorporate this feedback without making it harder for those who just want to enter a few pieces of information and be on their way.

A few new features make it easier to select the route that's right for you. Curious to see the route the bus takes to your final destination? On desktop, mouse over the journey options on the left to compare routes.

Wondering where the bus goes after your stop, or the next train station enroute? You can now see the full route of your selected service indicated by the blue line, There is also a suggested walking route to your final destination.

Advanced options

By default the journey planner is set to display all available results for all transport modes (bus, train, ferry). Click the advanced button to change what transport mode you want displayed in your results. In addition to being able to select your transport mode, the ‘Advanced’ menu now has more option to choose from:

Maximum walk times advanced box

Would you like to see a bus service that leaves closer to your location rather than the frequent, faster services from the bus station? Use the drop down to shorten the ‘Max Walking Time’ to 5 minutes. This lets the journey planner know that you don’t really mind if this bus takes a little longer as long as you don’t have to walk very far to get it.

Geek Fact: The walking time calculation is based on a walk speed of 4km per hour.

Don't mind changing to a train at an interchange to get to your destination faster? Or would you prefer to see if a direct service is available?

Filter by Operator

Left your umbrella in a bus from Great North Road to the city? Know what bus company it was but can't remember the bus number? Learn which one it might be by using the 'Service Operator' options.
