Buses replace some trains - August Buses replace some trains - August

There are times when trains will not operate on the Auckland rail network due to maintenance, services will be replaced by a rail bus.


Saturday 8 August to Sunday 9 August 2020

Rail replacement bus services for Saturday 8 August and Sunday 9 August will not be shown in the Journey Planner and AT Mobile. Refer to PDF timetables below.

  • Western Line - Buses will replace trains.

  • Southern Line - Buses will replace trains between Britomart and Otahuhu. Trains will operate between Otahuhu and Pukekohe.

  • Onehunga Line - Buses will replace trains.

  • Eastern Line - Trains will operate as normal.

Reason for line closure: Western Line closed for Mt Eden construction enabling work, single line running work and cycleway work. 

Saturday 15 August and Sunday 16 August 2020

Rail replacement bus services for Saturday 15 August and Sunday 16 August will not be shown in the Journey Planner and AT Mobile. Refer to PDF timetables below.

  • From 7pm Saturday until end of service and from 7pm Sunday until end of service buses will replace trains on all lines.

Reason for line closure: Signal system upgrade testing. 

Saturday 22 August to Sunday 23 August 2020

  • Western Line - Buses will replace trains.

  • Eastern Line - Trains will operate as normal.
  • Southern Line - Trains will operate as normal.
  • Onehunga Line - Trains will operate as normal.

Reason for line closure: Western line blocked for CRL work.

Monday 24 August to Thursday 27 August 2020

  • Western Line - Buses will replace trains after 8:30pm. Last train from Swanson will depart at 8:40pm, and last train from Britomart will depart at 8:22pm.

  • Eastern Line - Trains will operate as normal.
  • Southern Line - Trains will operate as normal.
  • Onehunga Line - Trains will operate as normal.

Reason for line closure: Western line blocked for CRL work at Mt Eden.

Saturday 29 August 2020

  • Eastern Line - Buses will replace trains between Panmure and Manukau until 2pm. Trains will operate as normal between Britomart and Sylvia Park.

  • Southern Line - Buses will replace trains between Penrose and Pukekohe until 2pm. Trains will operate as normal between Britomart and Penrose.

  • Western Line - Buses will replace some trains between Britomart and Morningside between 6pm and 9pm.

  • Onehunga Line - Trains will operate as normal.

Reason for line closure: Wiri Junction upgrade, Puhinui station redevelopment and track work between Wiri and Pukekohe.

Replacement buses

Rail replacement bus services will display the route codes RBS, RBW, RBO, RBE for Rail Bus Southern, Rail Bus Western, Rail Bus Onehunga and Rail Bus Eastern. All valid tickets and passes currently accepted on trains will be accepted on rail bus replacements.
