Why are we removing the 991X and the 992X?

Removing these duplicate services enables us to run more frequent local services, making the bus a better option for more people, for more types of journeys, to more destinations.

We are running out of suitable space in the City Centre to accommodate direct services from every part of Auckland. We need a more efficient bus network, with fewer routes coming into the City Centre, using larger buses and bus priority infrastructure where possible. This means all NX1 buses from Hibiscus Coast Station are scheduled to be double-deckers.

These changes may mean you will need to transfer but there will be more buses, coming more often meaning easy transfers and a more flexible timetable.

Why are we making the changes now?

On 30 September 2018 a new bus network for the North Shore is being implemented. New bus operator contracts will commence.

The aim of these changes is to increase the number of local buses and Northern Express services, supporting population growth in the area.
