Starting Sunday 5 July 2020, a new frequent bus service, route 64, will begin operating between Kingsland and Newmarket.
On Saturday 11 July 2020, the Mt Eden Station will close for approximately 4 years for its redevelopment. The closure will enable the Link Alliance to construct a new station building and rail tunnels to the city centre to complete the City Rail Link. The 64 bus service will offer a replacement public transport option for people travelling to and from Mt Eden Station when the station is closed. Find out more information on the Mt Eden Station redevelopment.
The new frequent route 64 will connect Newmarket, Grafton Station on Khyber Pass Road, Boston Road, Mt Eden Road between Boston Road and Valley Road to Kingsland.
From Sunday 30 August the fare for single trips on route 64 will be one cent.
Auckland Transport wanted to offer a free fare on route 64 so that we could compensate customers for the disruption caused by the closure of Mt Eden Station.
In the AT HOP card system, a free fare creates two separate journeys: before route 64 and after route 64. This could mean customers using route 64 in combination with two or more buses or trains could pay more than they should. To ensure that these customers are not overcharged, we need to introduce a one cent fare for route 64.
We’re now asking all our customers to tag-on/off all AT buses – including route 64 – with a registered HOP card. This is so that contact tracing can be done if necessary.
Bus route 64 fares from 30 August 2020:
- One single trip on the 64 bus service will now be one cent for everyone including concession holders (child, secondary, tertiary and accessible).
- It will continue to be free for SuperGold concession holders after 9am, and on weekends
- It will continue to be free for child concession holders on weekends and public holidays
- If you are combining a trip on the 64 bus service with another bus or train trip the 64 trip will be free and add no additional cost.
The bus route will operate at least every 15 minutes between 7am and 7pm, 7 days a week. Outside of these times, it will operate between every 20 to 30 minutes.
