Mountain biking trails in Auckland

Find a number of both paid and free mountain bike trails below. Some trails may be closed for maintenance or if there is bad weather so check their websites for more info.

Woodhill Bike Park, Restall Road, Woodhill

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Opening hours: 8am to 5.30pm.
Description: Easy to find, plenty of parking, café and toliets onsite.
Distance: 67 tracks of varying lengths.

Riverhead Forest, Barlow Rd and Old North Rd, Riverhead

Grade/ability level: Intermediate to advanced.
Description: Two main areas - Barlow Road (old school tracks): Some tracks aren't marked in areas, lots of ruts and best ridden dry. The WCRC Compound on Old North Road is a simple layout, for mountain bikes only and has great drainage.

Sanders Recreation Reserve, Sanders Road, Paremoremo

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Opening hours: Summer from 6am to 8:30pm, Winter from 6am to 6.30pm.
Description: 22 kilometres of mountain bike trails, including a 500 metre trail designed for children
Distance: 8 tracks of varying distances and ability levels.

Arch Hill Mountain Bike Track, Ivanhoe Rd, Grey Lynn

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Description: With over 3km of well maintained trails ranging in grade from “Training Wheels” to the challenging “Steep Street” – there is something for everyone.
Distance: 5km.

Rangihoua Mountain Bike Trails, O'Brien Rd, Waiheke Island

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Description: 6 tracks for various abilities and differing distances up to 2.5km. Ideal for family.
Distance: 500m to 2.5km.

Maraetai Forest Tracks, Rewa Rd or Okaroro Dr, Maraetai

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Description: A secluded range of 16 native and pine trails with some full on down hill sections. Most trails are intermediate level.
Distance: Over 16km in total.

Totara Park, Redoubt Rd, Manurewa

Grade/ability level: Beginner.
Opening hours: Open summer 7am to 9pm and winter - 7am to 7pm.
Description: The trails are a mix of beginner to intermediate, gentle grades, but challenging at pace.

Distance: 10 to 12km.

Puhinui Reserve, 108 Prices Rd, Manurewa

Grade/ability level: Beginner.
Description: Great beginner to intermediate trails right next to Manukau centre.
Distance: 10+ km.

Hunua Ranges Regional Park, Moumoukai Rd, Hunua

Access: Travel through to Hunua township – 6km further on and look for the yellow AA “DAMS” sign on your left, turning into Moumoukai Road. Travel along gravel road past the Waiora Dam turnoff and then drop down to Mangatawhiri Dam. Park up in the campground carpark at the foot of this dam.
Grade/ability level:
Beginner to advanced.
Description: Five tracks available from a family loop to advanced downhill track.
Distance: Combined 43km of trails.

Puni Mountain Bike Park, 94 Attewell Rd, Pukekohe

Grade/ability level: Intermediate to advanced.
Description: Single track with the addition of a pump and jump track.
Distance: 6 to 7km of trails.

Waharau Regional Park, 1748 East Coast Road, Whakatiwai

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Description: Two Cross country tracks that extend from the Firth of Thames into foothills of the Hunua Ranges. One track is an easy loop and the other a more advanced trail.
Distance: 23km.

Ambury Regional Park, 43 Ambury Road, Mangere Bridge

Grade/ability level: Beginner.
Opening hours: Pedestrian access 24 hours. Gates open 8am - 9pm (Summer) 8am - 7pm (Winter).
Description: Mountain biking is allowed on open farmland and designated tracks, excluding the foreshore.
Distance: 2.5km.

Duder Regional Park, 933R North Road, Clevedon

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Opening hours: Pedestrian access 24 hours. 8am - 9pm (Summer) 8am - 7pm (Winter).
Description: The Duder Farm Loop is a 4km trail through rolling countryside, not enough for the serious MTB rider, but great for the family.
Distance: 4km.

Tapaakanga Regional Park, 95 Deerys Road, Orere Point

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Opening hours: Pedestrian access 24 hours. 8am - 9pm (Summer) 8am - 7pm (Winter).
Description: The track is a basic cross country route only, and involves cross slope and up/down terrain. A moderate level of fitness and experience is required.
Distance: 6.9km.

Awhitu Regional Park, Brook Road, Waiku

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Opening hours: Open 24 hours.
Description: Follow the yellow waymakers and you will get to explore most of the park. Watch out for no go areas through regenerating bush.
Distance: 3km.

Tawharanui Regional Park, 1181 Takutu Road, Tawharanui

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Opening hours: Pedestrian access 24 hours. 6am - 9pm (Summer) 6am - 7pm (Winter).
Description: 3 tracks for various abilities and differing distances up to 9km. Ideal for family.
Distance: 1.8km - 9km.

Shakespear Regional Park, 1468 Whangaparaoa Road, Army Bay

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Opening hours: Pedestrian access 24 hours. 6am - 9pm (Summer) 6am - 7pm (Winter).
Description: 2 tracks multi use walking and mountain biking tracks - one 3km and one 5km 3km and 5km.

Waitawa Regional Park, 1168 Clevedon Kawakawa Road, Clevedon

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
Opening hours: Pedestrian access 24 hours. 6am - 9pm (Summer) 6am - 7pm (Winter).
Description: The mountain bike tracks have been designed with families in mind, offering a good range of beginner and easier grade tracks, as well as intermediate tracks for those with a bit more experience behind the handlebars.
Distance: 17 tracks of varying distances and ability levels.

Description: Trails are predominantly downhill.

Description: Shared use trails, gentle grade. Stunning views accross the dams to the west coast, and the harbor to the east.
Distance: 12km return.

Grade/ability level: Beginner to advanced.
