The Auckland Bike Challenge is a fun, free competition that’s all about seeing which workplaces can get the most people to ride a bike for just 10 minutes or more a day throughout the month.

To join this year’s challenge, simply register online and cycle for at least 10 minutes anywhere, anytime during the month of February. Everyone can take part - it doesn’t matter if you haven’t ridden in years. This includes current cyclists as well as those new to cycling who are interested in giving it a go.

By participating in the Challenge, you’ll be competing amongst participating workplaces, offices and peers throughout New Zealand. You can challenge friends and colleagues to take part and support your organisation to win.

The Challenge focuses on participation, not distance, to ensure a fair competition that encourages new and occasional riders, along with regular riders. Just log your daily rides rides through the simple online platform, or sync with a mobile app, during the month of February. Each ride recorded increases your organisation’s score and gives staff a chance to win fantastic prizes.

There will be live leaderboards on the Challenge website showing which organisations are currently on top. Individuals earn points for riding and encouraging others to ride, which contributes to their workplaces total.

There are lots of great prizes to be won, including a trip to the Grand Canyon, bike gear and more! The workplaces with the highest total points will win team prizes at the end of the challenge. Plus, keep an eye out for weekly spot prizes being drawn throughout February.

In addition to winning prizes, the Challenge helps to boost health & wellbeing and sustainability by growing the cycling community, promoting cycle safety, and helping to build the case for better cycling facilities. Each time a car trip is converted to a bike trip, it takes one more car off the road, reducing congestion and CO2 emissions – a win-win.

Looking for another reason to ride this year? The Auckland Bike Challenge has joined forces with Variety – the Children’s Charity’s Bikes for Kids programme, which helps provide bikes for Kiwi kids in need. By signing up for this year’s challenge, you’ll have a chance to create a fundraising page and raise money throughout the month. Every $250 raised will gift a child with a brand new bike and helmet!
