The 2019 Auckland Walk Challenge took place during November.
This was a month-long opportunity for Aucklanders to:
- Get fit
- Improve their heart health
- Try walking to work, or at least to the bus, train or ferry
- Spend time walking with friends and colleagues
- Try walking to meetings
- Lose some weight
Over 8,000 Aucklanders signed up to 'virtually walk' from Bluff to Auckland in teams of 2 to 6, and collectively walked 1.14 billion steps - equivalent to walking to the moon 2.4 times.
The goal of the challenge was for participants to walk an average of 7,000 steps a day, which was achieved with the average participant walking 7,183 daily steps.
We hope that The Auckland Walk Challenge will be back in 2020 - watch this space.
