On 10 December 2017, we launched a new bus network for East Auckland. Everything has changed, including bus routes, route numbers, timetables and buses.

The new East Auckland bus network is part of a simpler, more integrated public transport network for Auckland.

New East Auckland network

This map shows the bus routes which were introduced in East Auckland, Beachlands and Maraetai. Some passengers need to transfer to another bus or train to complete their journey.

What the New Network brings to East Auckland

  • More services, especially from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week.
  • Buses are more frequent, at least every 15 minutes, between Howick and Botany.

Buses connecting with trains

  • Connections to the Eastern Line can be made at Panmure Interchange which head towards the City Centre and Manukau.
  • Connections can also be made at Ōtāhuhu interchange which is serviced by Southern and Eastern lines
  • The East New Network also provides access to Middlemore, Papatoetoe and Manukau train stations.
  • Trains on the Eastern & Southern Lines run every 10 minutes during peak times, every 20 minutes in the middle of the day, and every 30 minutes on evenings and weekends.

Night bus

The NiteRider service N50 has been replaced by a new late night service on Fridays and Saturdays. This is the 70H service, servicing East Auckland.

From Waitematā Station (Britomart), it travels via Symonds Street, the same as all other East Auckland daytime services.

380 Airporter service

The 380 Airporter has increased in frequency to every 15 minutes all day, every day. Connections for this service can be made from East Auckland at Manukau or Papatoetoe Stations.

Beachlands and Maraetai

The New Network for East Auckland also includes service changes to Beachlands and Maraetai. The 739 service runs hourly, 7 days a week.

Changes to school buses

As part of the East Auckland New Network, Auckland Transport school bus routes have changed from the beginning of Term 1 in 2018. These changes include the routes, destinations and route numbers. View the East Auckland school bus changes.

  • 351 service, a Monday to Friday, half-hourly route to Otahuhu via Highbrook and every 20 minutes at peak times.
  • 35 service with buses every 15 minutes to Manukau, 7 days a week.
  • No change to route 31 – all day 15-minute service to Otara, Papatoetoe and Mangere Town Centre.
  • 734 route via full length of Botany Road to meet every ferry**

  • New trial bus service 714 to Half Moon Bay, meeting every ferry sailing (including last sailings on Fri and Sat nights).
  • 733 service is a more direct route to Botany via Aviemore Drive and Cascades Road.

Eastern Beach residents need to use Bucklands Beach Road bus stops, as buses no longer travel via Eastern Beach Road and The Esplanade.

  • The 72X peak only service provides access to the city in the morning via the Ellerslie Panmure Highway and Southern Motorway in the morning.

Flatbush

  • 35 service with buses every 15 minutes to Manukau, 7 days a week.
  • Half-hourly service 355 on Haddington and Brookview Drives, 7 days a week. Every 20 minutes at peak times.
  • The previous 314 service has changed to connect to Middlemore Station, not Papatoetoe Station.
  • Improved 739 service to Beachlands and Maraetai, via Ormiston Road.


As new roads are built, bus routes will change to better serve Ormiston Town Centre and growing residential areas.

Half Moon Bay

From Monday 11 December the Half Moon Bay Ferry timetable has changed to improve reliability and to provide better connections to the new bus services. View the new timetables.

  • The 734 bus service to Botany, via Highland Park and Botany Road, meeting every ferry sailing*.
  • All-day 735 service to Howick, meeting every ferry sailing**.
  • New trial bus service 714 from Bucklands Beach, meeting every ferry sailing (including last sailings on Fri and Sat nights).
  • For travel towards the City Centre by bus, passengers can catch the 712 from Bucklands Beach Road, and transfer to trains for Waitematā Station (Britomart) at Panmure Station.

Highbrook

  • The 351 service is, a Monday to Friday, half-hourly route to Botany and Otahuhu Station, which runs every 20 minutes at peak times.
  • No changes to existing 353 via Harris Road, and 31 via Springs Road.
  • Timetable changes to 352 service.

Highland Park

  • Travel towards Botany on 72C via Chapel Road or 72M via Millhouse Road.
  • In the opposite direction, both of these services travel to Panmure, creating a 15-minute frequency, 7 days a week.
  • More direct route to Botany via Aviemore Drive and Cascades Road 733 or to Bucklands beach in the opposing direction.
  • Bus service to Half Moon Bay, meeting every ferry sailing** 734.

  • Buses to Panmure every 15 minutes all day, 7 days a week on the 72C and 72M services.
  • Buses to Botany via either Chapel Road 72C or Millhouse Drive 72M every 15 minutes all day,7 days a week.
  • Morning express services to the City Centre and evening peak express services from the City Centre, every 10 minutes 72X. At other times passengers can transfer at Panmure for travel towards the City Centre.
  • Service 711 connects Howick and Panmure via Union Road and Bradbury Road, running hourly 7 days a week, and every 20 minutes at peak times.
  • Route 734 serves the full length of Botany Road, connecting Botany, Highland Park and Half Moon Bay, timed to meet every ferry*.
  • Bus service 735 from Cockle Bay to Half Moon Bay via Howick, timed to meet every ferry**.

Panmure Interchange

  • Service 70 runs every 10 minutes 7 days a week between 7am and 8pm, and more often during peak times. This travels towards the city via Ellerslie Panmure Highway and Great South Road and to Botany via Ti Rakau Drive.
  • Travel towards Howick and Botany on 72C via Chapel road or 72M via Millhouse Road creating a 15-minute frequency, 7 days a week.
  • Service 712 is a more direct route to Bucklands via Casuarina Road and Butley Drive.
  • Service 711 connecting Howick and Panmure via Union Road and Bradbury Road, running hourly 7 days a week, and every 20 minutes at peak times.
  • Peak only express service 72X to the city centre in the morning travelling via Ellerslie Panmure Highway and the Southern Motorway to Symonds Street.
  • In the afternoon, this express services travels towards Botany via Howick on Whitford Road.
  • The 352 service travels through Highbrook and East Tamaki to Manukau.

Whitford

Route 739 has been created to better serve growing areas and offers:

  • Improved frequency, hourly to Botany and Beachlands/Maraetai, 7 days a week.
  • Serves the Ormiston Town Centre.

  • 8 Whitford Maraetai Road (stop number 1988).

Bus stops closed

  • Whitford Maraetai Road by Waikopua Road (stop number 2140).
  • Whitford Maraetai Road near Trig Road (#6872).

Neighbouring suburbs

Ellerslie, Great South Road and Newmarket

  • Some Ellerslie Panmure Highway services 500, 501, 550, 551, 552 will be replaced by the 70 which runs every 10 minutes 7 days a week between 7am and 8pm, and more often during peak times.
  • Existing 505, 515, 525, 532, 595 services have not changed.
  • The 550X has been replaced by the 72X which operates every 10 minutes at peak times.

Manukau

Construction of Manukau Bus Station is complete and buses are now able to use this bus station. 

Middlemore

School bus stops only

  • 100 Hospital Road (stop number 2005).

Otara

The destination of the 314 service has changed from Papatoetoe Station to Middlemore Station, providing a half-hourly connection between Otara and Middlemore, 7 days a week, and every 20 minutes at peak times.

  • 101 Bairds Road (stop number 6407).
  • 96 Bairds Road (#6390).

Otahuhu

Otahuhu Station

The 351 service (Mon to Fri only) provides a half-hourly connection to Highbrook and Botany, and every 20 minutes at peak times, departing from Stop B'.

Papatoetoe

Papatoetoe Station

The destination of the 314 service has changed from Papatoetoe Station to Middlemore Station, providing a half-hourly connection between Otara and Middlemore, 7 days a week, and every 20 minutes at peak times.

The 380 route now has two different bus stops. Stop A (#6480) is serviced by the 380 which heads towards the Airport, Mangere Town Centre and Onehunga. Stop B (#2381) heads towards Manukau.

St Johns

With changes to the Express services, some bus stops have closed on Morrin Road to public services:

  • 41 Morrin Road (stop number 1311).
  • 62 Morrin Road (#1326).
  • 84 Morrin Road (#1328).
  • 121 Morrin Road (#1313).

These bus stops no longer serve Eastern express buses, but retain Central Auckland services.
