February 2024
Work to repair Karekare Road (the Cutting) is completed, and the road is open to Residents Only. AT contractors are now making repairs to Lone Kauri Road.
27 October 2023
We have started works on Karekare Road, between Piha Road, and the bridge at the Regional Park, on 16 October 2023
We expect works will take up to February 2024 to complete, weather dependent.
The road will be closed during this period of work.
While works are underway, we will need to close this road. All traffic will need to go via Lone Kauri Road.

- Initial Geotech assessment complete. Next work stage - initial works underway.
- Open - Residents only (closed to the public) with access from Lone Kauri Road, with the following restrictions: 30km speed limit, weight restriction nothing over 3.5 tonnes & no vehicles over 3 metres in height
- Karekare Residents please note the section of Lone Kauri Rd between Nixon Track and La Trobe Track remains closed
14 February 2024
Work has started to repair three sites on Lone Kauri Road.
Contractors have cleared and prepared the slip face and are drilling soil anchors today.
The road is open to Residents Only.
October 2023
There are three sites on Lone Kauri Road that need permanent repair work. Three retaining walls will be built to stabilise the road.
This work will take place after the work on Karekare Road is complete. Karekare Road will be closed for works between October 2023 and February 2024. Whilst Karekare road is closed, Lone Kauri Road will remain open as the only access route to Karekare. Lone Kauri Road has a 3.5 Tonnes weight limit.
Lone Kauri Road will be closed to all traffic, whilst repairs are underway. We will update the community before works start.
