28 April

From Tuesday 28 April, the pedestrian bridge across Puhinui Station will be temporarily closed to the public. Construction will be re-starting on the Puhinui Station Interchange and closing the bridge will allow construction staff to continue to use this bridge while reducing the risk of any Covid-19 spread between staff and the public.

The public will still be able to travel East to West via Bridge street. This closure will be re-assessed as the alert levels decrease.

During Labour weekend, a steel deck was constructed over the tracks at Puhinui rail station– some train passengers may have seen it on their daily commute. It is designed so construction work can continue while train services still operate and it is the first of its kind. The team have been hard at work installing 30 metre plus piles in the platform space with the benefit of this steel deck that separates any crane lifts from the electrified rail lines. By the end of November the piling works will move across to the western side of the rail station whilst pile caps are installed for each pile.
