Road closures for 4 consecutive Sundays in July

Due to poor weather over the past month, the work to install the in-road LED lights has been delayed. This means for the next four Sundays there will again be full closures of Redoubt Road, starting 5 July. These closures are dependent on good weather.

These road closures are needed so that we can install the in-road LED lights for the dynamic lane.

The road will be closed from 3pm on Sunday afternoon until 5am Monday morning.

Dates of road closures:

  • 3pm Sunday 5 July 2020 to 5am Monday 6 July 2020.
  • 3pm Sunday 12 July 2020 to 5am Monday 13 July 2020.
  • 3pm Sunday 19 July 2020 to 5am Monday 20 July 2020.
  • 3pm Sunday 26 July 2020 to 5am Monday 27 July 2020.

Residents will still have access

Traffic control measures will be in place for the safety of both the public and our workers. Residents will be able to access their homes, however, please expect delays. Please note that some night works will be necessary.

We are committed to limiting inconvenience, but some disruption will be inevitable. We thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.

If you have any questions, concerns or special requirements before or during the course of work, message us through the feedback form on the Redoubt Road dynamic lanes web page.

Consultation is underway on other aspects of the project

While construction continues on with installing the in road LED lights, we are consulting on other aspects of the project such as new signalised pedestrian crossings, and changes to bus stops.

Have your say on new signalised pedestrian crossings, and changes to bus stops.

Dynamic Lanes construction delayed

Construction of Redoubt Road dynamic lanes has been delayed. We are now aiming for dynamic lanes to be operating by mid-2020 and not early 2020 as we had previously said.

In October 2019 Auckland Transport (AT) began site preparation work to install dynamic lanes along a section of Redoubt Road, between the Southern Motorway offramp and Hollyford Drive. There will be no further construction until around March 2020

There are two reasons for the delay

  • Challenges with Vector power lines (possible need to move the powerlines underground).
  • Addition of a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights on Redoubt Road.

We have listened to your feedback

Feedback from the community showed that you wanted a safer place to cross Redoubt Road. We are now looking to install a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights.

Also, power lines along the road are going to be too close to the poles we were planning to install. Vector may have to move these power lines underground. This means we need to re-assess parts of our design. This will take time.

These changes are for the better

These changes have caused a delay, but they will mean a safer street for people walking, and better dynamic lanes.

Over the next two months we will develop more detailed designs for these changes. We will be in touch as soon as possible with more details.
