Matiatia landside transport improvements Matiatia landside transport improvements
Auckland Transport (AT), the Waiheke Local Board, and Direction Mātiatia are working on landside transport improvements that aim to address safety, access, congestion and storm water impacts issues at Mātiatia wharf.
Project status: Consultation
Project zone: Central
Project overview
Auckland Transport has been working with Waiheke Local Board, Auckland Council, Direction Mātiatia and Ngāti Paoa representatives on the wider Mātiatia Plan. The Plan is being developed to address the impact of significant growth over time (residents, tourism) and prepares for future growth on the island.
Following establishing a set of transport outcomes for the Plan in 2019, and a trial keyhole layout over summer 2019/20, Auckland Transport are now presenting the proposed landside transport improvements for Mātiatia for feedback, ahead of any further development. The improvements are designed to provide better safety, stormwater management and look to address congestion issues at Mātiatia. Feedback around the summer keyhole trial has been considered and will be incorporated into the development of the preferred option.
In conjunction with development of the proposed landside transport improvements, the wider Mātiatia Plan project team (Waiheke Local Board, Auckland Council, Direction Mātiatia and Ngati Paoa) are continuing master planning for the non-transport areas at Mātiatia. These non-transport aspects will be the subject of a separate public engagement at a later date.
Project details
A business case for the landside transport improvements is currently being developed by AT, which will then be presented to Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) for potential funding. The proposal includes a base set of improvements, and the elements from one of three different options, which combined each have a total estimated budget of $15 million. We are seeking your feedback around a preferred option and priorities and outcomes in regard to parking, increased cycling and walking options, and park and ride bus facilities.
Have your say
We want your feedback to help us improve and refine the proposals. Local knowledge will give us a better understanding of the area, the community’s parking needs and any improvements that can be made to the plans.
You can help by telling us which of the options presented you prefer and your priorities regarding parking, cycling and park and ride facilities. The feedback received will help refine the project as it moves through to a business case for a final preferred option.
Feedback will open soon, dates to be confirmed.
After feedback closes
- We will analyse all of the feedback and use it to help refine the proposal.
- We will prepare a report on the feedback received and any changes made to the proposal which will be published online. If you provided your contact details when giving us feedback, we will notify you when the report is available.
