Damage from the flood and cyclone in 2023
With over 2000 slips and issues reported across the region following the January and February 2023 weather events, there is still a long road of repairs ahead. The overall flood repair programme in Auckland is expected to take two to three years to complete.
Overall as of the end of 2023:
- Total sites: 2003
- Of the 803 minor-major repairs needed across Auckland, 359 have been completed to date (45%).
- 34 sites are currently under construction.
Currently, there are 12 local roads with full closures in place, 30 roads open to single lane, 7 roads open under restrictions, and 6 roads open to residents only. This remains fluid and will change throughout the day and week.
You’ll find information and progress updates on major road repairs in your community on this page. These are long-term repairs which means it will take more than 12 months to fix.
We ask for your patience as there remain sites across the region that have sustained significant damage. Locations that have the highest risk, and safety needs, or are the only access to a community, are prioritised for attention.
In some locations, we’ve been able to provide a temporary fix, such as one-lane access to enable access for residents or the wider community, until we can permanently rebuild the road.
We understand road damage is causing inconvenience to residents, due to detours and road closures and want to reassure the community, that we’ve deployed as many resources as possible (including additional contractors) to work on these sites but there are roads that will take significant time to fully repair.
