Meeting the need with a new bus service for Papakura and Takaanini Meeting the need with a new bus service for Papakura and Takaanini

Date: 4 July 2025

With more and more South Aucklanders wanting to travel by public transport, Auckland Transport is moving to meet the need of those in the Papakura and Takaanini areas.

The existing AT Local on-demand rideshare service will be replaced in April 2026 by a new bus route, the 364.

AT’s Director of Public Transport and Active Modes Stacey Van Der Putten says since AT Local started in Takaanini and Papakura in October 2021, the local population has grown a lot, and more people are wanting to use the service.

“Customers have told us they enjoy using AT Local, however we also know that it can be difficult to get a booking, particularly at peak commuting times.

“Adding more AT Local vehicles and drivers is not a practical solution in the long term. The bus service will have more room for more people, customers won’t need to book, and buses will follow the same route and use the same bus stops every time. As well as catering to current demand, the bus service will have sufficient capacity to allow for the future as the local population continues to grow.”

The 364 would run between Papakura Station, Takaanini, Conifer Grove, Waiata Shores and Manurewa Station, serving Takaanini town centre, Takaanini Station and Te Mahia Station. Buses would run every 30 minutes, seven days a week, from 5:30am on weekdays and 6:30am on weekends, until 11pm.

Customers’ views are important to us and will help us finalise the 364 route, running hours and frequency, plus the locations of new bus stops and pedestrian crossing facilities.

Public feedback is open until Sunday 10 August. For more information and to give your feedback, visit haveyoursay.govt.nz/Takaanini-PT or come to a public drop-in session:
