Cruise ship arrivals and departures Cruise ship arrivals and departures

Possible ferry delays and cancellations

To manage the safe arrival of cruise ships into the harbour, ferries are unable to operate too close to large vessels. This is because engine thrusters used by cruise ships cause dangerous underwater currents.

To limit the impact to ferry timetables, Ports of Auckland manages cruise ship arrival and departure schedules to avoid peak commute times. During these agreed windows, there are likely to be delays and cancellations to ferry trips while they let cruise ships into the port, so we advise all customers to check before they travel.

While cruise ships aim to stick to their scheduled arrival and departure times, factors such as weather can cause unforeseen delays, or require the ship to arrive earlier than expected. This means delays and cancellations may also occur outside of these windows.
