Nothing Else Matters... Except getting you to Metallica Nothing Else Matters... Except getting you to Metallica
Date: 19 November 2025
It’s going to be a busy afternoon and evening on Auckland’s transport network with more than 50,000 Metallica fans in town for tonight’s gig at Eden Park.
Extra bus and train services will be running today to help Metallica fans get to the concert and teams at the Auckland Transport Operations Centre will Hit the Lights (by actively managing traffic lights) to keep people moving around Eden Park.
Ride the Lightning - Metallica fans should plan ahead to beat weekday traffic
More than 50,000 fans will descend on Eden Park this afternoon for a night of the heaviest metal the music genre has to offer. Gates open at 4.30pm with Metallica set to hit the stage at 8.15pm for a two-hour show.
“If you have a ticket to the gig, you’ll be able to Ride the Lightning, or at least ride the train or bus for free, starting from 2.30pm until the end of daily services,”says Rebecca Paul, Practice Manager Events at Auckland Transport Operations Centre.
“Simply show your ticket to the driver when boarding and remember to keep your event ticket for the journey home.”
“Nothing else will matter for fans to get as close as possible to the stage, so we’re urging people to get to Eden Park nice and early to avoid rush hour traffic and late delays in getting through the stadium entry gates”.
“After the gig, expect longer wait times as we move as quickly as possible to get everyone home safely,” says Rebecca.
AT will put on extra capacity on Western Line train services and run special event buses from the North Shore and City Centre to Eden Park (and home again after the gig) to help move the tens of thousands of fans who go for the No Remorse option and leave the car at home.
“We also know that fans might enjoy a few drinks at the concert tonight so we’re asking people to make a plan to get home safely without getting behind the wheel so nobody has to worry about Whiplash or The Four Horsemen if they’re Too Far Gone.”
