Tree and vegetation weed spraying
Vegetation maintenance on berms is a shared responsibility. Auckland Transport manages rural berms and Auckland Council manages urban berms.

Public vegetation and trees
If vegetation or trees on a berm is causing an issue, let either Auckland Council or Auckland Transport (AT) know. Requests will be assessed, and work will be carried out if or when it's needed.
Private vegetation
Trees, bushes and hedges that grow on private property must be maintained by the owner to keep them from obstructing public assets.
If vegetation is putting road users at risk, AT will contact the property owner. AT will give them one month to remove the obstruction at the property owner's expense. If the property owner does not remove it, AT will remove it and send the invoice to the property owner.
Check if your tree is protected
If the tree you are going to work on is protected, you may need a resource consent — check with Auckland Council to find out.
Weed spraying
Auckland Council is responsible for the control of weeds and pest plants in our footpaths, berms, streets and roads. Materials and processes used to control weeds vary throughout the Auckland region.
To learn more about why and how they spray weeds check out the Auckland Council website.
If you do not want Auckland Council to do any weed control with agrichemicals on the berm or park boundary of your property, you can join their no-spray register.
You can also ask to remove your property from the list if you no longer want to be on it or are moving house. Be aware that if you do not control the weeds, Auckland Council will resume spraying.
