Apply for a lease (3 steps)

Submit an online application

Apply for a parking lease online. Once you submit the form, we'll be in touch within 4 working days.

Application reviewed

Leases are subject to availability. We'll do our best to offer a car park at your selected location.

If we can offer you a car park, we will send you details of your lease agreement. You will then need to:

  • supply one form of photo ID—either a passport or NZ driver licence
  • complete a signed direct debit form.

Parking spaces are not guaranteed until all documentation is received and accepted.

Application approved

If your application is successful, you will get:

  • an email confirmation with access instructions
  • an identification label to put on your windscreen—if required
  • a remote control to access the car park—if required.

Paying your lease

You can only pay for a monthly lease by direct debit. You will sign a direct debit form as part of your application.

Leases are paid in advance at the start of the month.

Your first invoice will include all charges from the lease start date to the end of the first full month.

All costs include GST.

Minimum 3-month term

If you cancel your lease within 3 months of the start date, you will need to pay an early-termination fee of $100.

Types of leases

Reserved allocated

From 6am to 6pm you are allocated a specific parking space to use.

After 6pm weekdays, at weekends and on public holidays, you can park free of charge—during the car park's operating hours.

If other customers park in your allocated space during business hours, you can ask to have them towed.

Reserved unallocated

From 6am to 6pm you are guaranteed a park—but not a specific space.

After 6pm weekdays, at weekends and on public holidays, you can park free of charge—during the car park's operating hours.

Other lease options

Overnight parking leases are available at Victoria Street car park and Downtown car park.

After-hours on weekdays and also on weekends you are guaranteed a park—but not a specific space.

On weekdays you must:

  • arrive after 4:30pm
  • leave before 8:30am the next morning.

On weekends and public holidays you can park:

  • free of charge in any non-restricted space
  • anytime during the car park's operating hours.

See operating hours for Victoria Street car park and Downtown car park.

To access your car after hours, contact Armourguard on 0800 900 015. You will need to pay a release fee.

Some AT car parks have spaces you can lease for smaller cars. Example car models include Toyota Echo or Vitz, Suzuki Swift or other similar vehicles.

Accessing your leased space

In some car parks you will use licence plate recognition or remote control for entry to the car park. With all of our monthly leases you can enter and exit as often as you like during the car park's operating hours.

No access card or remote needed

Some of our car parks use licence plate recognition (LPR) for entry and exit.

The LPR reads your vehicle's number plate and raises the barrier arm when you enter or exit the car park building.

Add multiple vehicles to your lease

You can list more than one vehicle on your lease and there is no extra cost to do this. Email parkingleases@at.govt.nz with the number plate details of any other vehicles that will use the lease space.

Only one listed vehicle can use access the monthly lease park at a time. If another of the listed vehicles needs to enter the car park they will:

  • see a message on the entry machine that they will need to pay casual parking rates
  • pay for parking at the machines or using AT Park before exiting.

If you need to use a temporary vehicle

If you are going to be using a temporary vehicle, for example a courtesy car, let us know as early as possible—preferably 3 days beforehand.

Once you are no longer using the temporary vehicle we can remove it from our system. If it is not removed this vehicle could still use your lease space.

If you are in the car park and have not let us know you are using a temporary vehicle you will need to pay for casual parking.

Some car parks require a remote control for entry. In these car parks you will also need to display an identification label. We will supply the remote and label. For the remote you will need to pay a:

  • $100 bond—which is refundable on return
  • $100 replacement fee if the remote is lost or damaged.

For McCrae Way car park the remote bond and replacement fee are $150 each.

When parking in a lease park in an open-air car park you will need to display an identification label. We will supply this along with your lease documents.
