What we do
Auckland Transport (AT) plan, build, design, operate and maintain the roads and streetscapes that make up Tāmaki Makaurau’s transport network.
We work with third parties to provide public transport services. We also design, build, manage and promote most of Auckland’s transport facilities, customer apps and the region’s integrated public transport ticketing system, AT HOP.
AT are the regional guardian of $31 billion of publicly-owned assets.
CCO of Auckland Council
Auckland Transport is a council-controlled organisation (CCO). It is a statutory body established in 2010 by the Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009 to contribute to an effective, efficient and safe land transport system in Auckland.
AT is accountable to its shareholder Auckland Council through its Statement of Intent (SOI) and its Annual Report.
AT’s activities are directed and guided at a strategic level by the board of directors.
How we are funded
Auckland Transport has 2 primary sources of funding.
- NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA)—through the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF).
- Auckland Council—through the Long-term Plan and Regional Land Transport Plan (RLTP).
Additional revenue comes from other sources such as public transport fares, user charges and fees, other subsidies and vested assets.
