How it works

AT Local is a rideshare service. This means there might be other customers in the vehicle when you are picked up and other customers may join you during your trip.

You can travel anywhere in the Service Zone during operating hours.

Tell us where you want to go and when

AT Local has no fixed route or timetable.

Book your ride

You can book to travel straight away or up to 7 days in advance.

Walk to your pick-up point

To ensure an easy journey for everyone, you must be at your pick-up point before your ride arrives.

Pay with your AT HOP card

Tap your card on the reader in the vehicle at the start and end of your trip.

Where you can travel

You can use AT Local to travel anywhere in the Service Zone shown on the map, which includes:

  • Waiata Shores
  • Conifer Grove
  • Takaanini
  • Kauri Flats
  • Papakura Town Centre

AT Local cannot pick you up or drop you off outside the Service Zone.

There are almost 400 pick-up and drop-off points in the Service Zone. Your pick-up and drop-off points will be confirmed when you book.

There will be a short walk (around 120 metres or 3 minutes) to and from your pick-up and drop-off points. AT Local is not a door-to-door service.

To get somewhere outside the Service Zone use AT Local to get to Takaanini or Papakura stations or a bus stop. Use AT’s Journey Planner or AT Mobile to plan your journey.

If you need to get somewhere by a specific time, use the “Arrive by” setting in the AT Local app or let the call centre know when you book.

Paying with AT HOP

Because you’re paying with your AT HOP card, you can use AT Local with AT's buses, trains and ferries. As long as there's no more than 30 minutes between trips (e.g. between tagging off AT Local and tagging onto a bus or train), you'll pay one fare for your total journey. This will be cheaper than paying for each trip separately. All our usual concessions are accepted, including Child and SuperGold, and you’ll automatically save 10% when you travel at off-peak times. Find out more about AT’s fares and concessions and use our Journey Planner to confirm your fare.

Why ride with AT Local

Safe

Our drivers are trained professionals. You'll be given your vehicle's number when you book. Our green and white vehicles are easy to spot.

Sustainable

AT Local is run using electric cars and vans, reducing your impact on the environment.

Affordable

Sharing your ride with other customers helps keep AT Local affordable, protects the environment and reduces congestion.

Accessible

AT Local is designed to be accessible, but through this trial we’ve learned our existing vehicles are not accessible for people with wheelchairs. We’re investigating alternative vehicles, so AT Local will be fully accessible in the future.

Travel together

Travelling with friends or whanau? Let us know how many people are in your group when you book and we’ll pick you up in the right-sized vehicle. You can book up to 7 seats per trip, subject to availability.

Children welcome

Children are welcome on AT Local. Children under the age of 5 years must be accompanied by someone aged 18 years or older. Children aged 5 years and older may travel on their own.
