Local authority fuel tax (LAFT) is collected by Auckland Transport for the Auckland region.
LAFT is paid by oil companies based on sales volumes of petrol and diesel in the Auckland region each month and contributes to the funding requirements of Auckland Transport.
Each oil company submits a monthly return providing the following information:
- Volume/quantity sold of petrol and diesel
- Total dollar amount of petrol tax to be paid. Tax on petrol is payable at $0.0066 per litre and diesel fuel payable at $0.0033 per litre.
