Fare caps
Travel with your AT HOP card and spend no more than $50 a week with our 7-day fare cap. Terms apply.
Customers using a contactless payment method get the $20 daily fare cap. Both fare caps are automatically applied.
Fare zones
Travel is calculated based on how many fare zones you travel through. Learn more about fare zones.
Contactless payments now available
Contactless payments are accepted on AT buses, trains and most ferries.* Tag on and off as you would with a HOP card using any of these payment methods:
- contactless debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, UnionPay)
- Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay in the digital wallet of your smart device.
*Contactless Payments excludes Fullers Waiheke commercial ferries. Island Direct Waiheke ferry services are included.
When you do not have a HOP card or contactless payment method
You will pay full-price fares if you do not have an AT HOP card or contactless payment method.
Cash and debit cards (EFTPOS) are not accepted on buses. Bus travel must be paid for with a HOP card or contactless method.
AT HOP cardholders can use their HOP card credit to pay for a full-price fare for anyone who doesn’t have a HOP card or contactless payment method.
You cannot pay for more than one person using a contactless method, so each person travelling must have their own contactless method or a HOP card.
You can use cash, debit cards and credit cards to buy full-price tickets from a ticket machine or customer service centre before boarding the train or ferry.
All single bus and train trips are 5 zones or less. If you do not have a HOP card or contactless payment method, a HOP cardholder must buy a full-price ticket for each trip you take.
