Transferring ownership of your mooring
Once your mooring has sold, you need to transfer ownership to complete the process. Pay the transfer fee.
Transfer mooring ownership (4 steps)
Fill out a mooring transfer certificate
Download and fill out the mooring transfer certificate (PDF, 2.48MB).
This must be signed by both the seller and the new owner.
Take a photo of the new owner's vessel
A photo of the new owner's vessel is required with your completed mooring transfer certificate.
Upload a clear side-on photo showing the full vessel and its name, ideally as a .jpg or .png file.
Email or post your completed transfer certificate and photo
Send us your completed mooring transfer certificate and the photo of the new owner's vessel. Make sure certificate is signed by both the seller and the new owner.

Pay the fee
Pay the mooring transfer fee, noted on the transfer certificate. Pay by internet or phone banking, or deposit at any Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) branch using:
- account name: Auckland Transport
- account number: 02 0192 0122888 03
- reference: 50006589 and your name.
What happens next
Once both the seller and new owner complete the transfer form, it’s sent to the moorings team. They check fees, vessel suitability, and inspection status.
If approved, the previous license is cancelled, and a new one is issued to the new owner. This is usually within one week.
