You will not be able to log in to your AT HOP account on Saturday 9 August from 4am to 11.59pm. You can still use your card to travel and top up at a machine.

Fares for people with accessibility needs

The Accessible concession and a free AT HOP card are available for Aucklanders who hold either a:

  • Total Mobility card
  • Blind Low Vision NZ card.

This gives you 40% off most buses, trains and ferries when using your registered AT HOP card.

The Accessible concession is also available when paying with cash, but the savings are not as great.

When paying by contactless, you will pay the full adult fare.

Apply online for discounted fares (4 steps)

Before you start

You’ll need:

  • a registered AT HOP card
  • a MyAT account
  • your Total Mobility or Blind Low Vision NZ card.

To get the accessible concession, you must reside in Auckland.

Apply for the concession

  1. In your MyAT account, select ‘Apply for a concession'.
  2. If you have a Blind Low Vision NZ card, select ‘Accessibility - RNZFB’. If you have a Total Mobility card, select ‘Accessibility - Total Mobility’.
  3. Select which AT HOP card to apply the concession to.
  4. Enter your Total Mobility or Blind Low Vision NZ card ID number and expiry date.
  5. Select ‘Apply’ to send your application.

If you’re using a Blind Low Vision NZ card, the expiry date is the last day of the month listed on your card. For example, April 2027 becomes 30 April 2027.

Wait for confirmation

We’ll email you to let you know we’ve received your application, and again when your concession is loaded. This can take 1 to 3 days. If you use your card in the meantime, adult fares will apply.

Once you receive your confirmation email, your concession will be ready to use in 1 hour.

Tag on to activate your concession

To activate your concession, tag on to the HOP reader or electronic gate on any bus, train or ferry.

If you do not tag on within 60 days of setting up your concession, it will expire and your card will revert to adult fares. If this happens, contact us and we can reactivate your concession for you.

Apply in person for discounted fares

You can also apply for your concession in person at one of our customer service centres. You may prefer this option if you don’t have a device or access to the internet, or are encountering issues with the online process.

Bring your Total Mobility or Blind Low Vision NZ card to prove you are eligible for the concession.

Important things to know

Who is eligible

You must have a current Total Mobility or Blind Low Vision NZ card and reside in Auckland to be eligible for the Accessible concession.

Carry your Total Mobility or Blind Low Vision NZ card with you when you travel. A Transport Officer may ask to see it to verify your eligibility.

What happens if your card gets lost

Your concession is attached to the card, not your account. This means if you lose your card and need a replacement, you need to reload the concession onto the new card.

You can cancel the card then transfer its balance to another card in the same AT HOP profile. Balance transfers include concessions and monthly ferry passes.

You can only transfer from a cancelled card to another card in the same profile. This means if you get a new card, you must then register it to the same profile as the old card.

Get in touch with our contact centre and we will send you a replacement card, free of charge.

To find out how to cancel a card and transfer its balance, go to Help or problems with your AT HOP card.

If you’re eligible for multiple concessions

You can only have one concession per card. If you’re eligible for another concession, like SuperGold or Community Connect, this can be loaded onto a second AT HOP card to use at different times.

Where accessible discount fares apply

Accessible discounts are available on Auckland Transport bus, train and ferry services, and AT Local. The discount does not apply on Waiheke Island or Rakino Island ferry services.

Carers and companions

Total Mobility cardholders can take one support person with them for free when travelling on AT Metro bus services. They must show their Total Mobility card when boarding the bus.

On other services, carers and companions must pay the full adult price for their own ticket, unless they have a valid concession themselves.

Expiry

Your concession will expire on the same date as your Total Mobility or Blind Low Vision NZ card. Contact us to renew your card, free of charge.
