Homai Station level crossings closure
There will be no access to Homai Station from 27 December to 27 January 2025 while the summer rail upgrade takes place.
During this time, we will replace the existing stairs from Browns Road with a new ramp to access the station.
There will be some disruption in the Dalgety Drive park and ride while we carry out construction work. Please follow the footpath detours and signs. Parking will be limited during this time.
Bus stop 6105 will temporarily move within the park and ride, next to the Dalgety Drive entry. Rail bus replacement and urban bus service 365 will run to their normal timetables.
Homai Station will reopen again in early 2025.
Changes around Homai Station
Background
We are making it safer to access Homai Station in preparation for the opening of the City Rail Link (CRL).
Improvements include:
- a new ramp to replace the stairs from Browns Road to Homai Station platform
- Browns Road, Mcvilly Road footpath widening to 1.8m
- new streetlights on Mcvilly and Browns Road, and along the new footpath to the park and ride bus stop
- a new staircase between the park and ride and Browns Road
- landscaping and planting of native plants along the railway corridor
- new fencing along the railway corridor.
Limiting disruption

However, from 8 to 12 December and 15 to 19 December, there will be no services from late evening on the Southern Line. Buses will replace trains during these times.

Why we’re closing the Homai Station level crossings
Auckland Transport is working with KiwiRail and NZ Transport Agency. We want to improve our rail system for passengers, freight and inter-regional services.
We’re upgrading stations, adding more rail tracks, improving safety and opening the City Rail Link (CRL).
This will enable:
- faster travel times
- more train services
- fewer transfers between services
- improved safety along our rail network.
Every year, people are hurt and even killed at level crossings through accidents and unsafe behaviour. When CRL opens, it will double Auckland’s rail capacity, meaning more trains, more often. There will be an unacceptable increase in the risk to safety at level crossings. Closing Homai’s crossing addresses a safety risk and gives us an opportunity to make the station more accessible. It will also allow us to install other improvements requested by the community.
