Project updates
Road closure (Meola Road), from 25 November
From Monday 25 to Saturday 30 November 2024, Meola Road will be closed to all traffic.
Resident-only access will be available during the works. If you live on Meola Road, please access from Moa Road, Kiwi Road or other connecting roads. There will be no access to Meola Road from the Garnet Road intersection.
Pedestrian access and the cycle lane will stay open to the public.
The road closure will be in place to complete the installation of a new manhole. Closing the road will make sure we can do these essential works in a safe and efficient way. In good weather conditions, we expect to complete this work in the 1-week timeframe.

Point Chevalier Road
There are multiple worksites between Meola Road and Tui Street. Northbound traffic (heading towards the beach) will need to follow the detours in place.
Great North Road and Point Chevalier Road intersection
There is a new layout on Great North Road for:
- eastbound traffic coming from Waterview and State Highway 16
- southbound traffic from Point Chevalier Road.
The current 2-lane configuration nearing the intersection of both roads will be reduced to one lane for:
- eastbound traffic going straight on Great North Road
- southbound traffic on Point Chevalier Road.
We are making this change so we can start work on the library corner. The new layout is expected to be in place until mid-December. If you’re travelling through this intersection, please expect delays or consider alternate routes.
Garnet Road
Currently, work is in progress at Faulder and Oban Avenues and in the shopping area on Garnet Road. This includes:
- drainage works
- building raised pedestrian crossings
- improving footpaths.
Traffic management is in place.

Stormwater network
We're delivering the stormwater network installation on Point Chevalier Road for Healthy Waters, saving money and time by sharing contractors, equipment and utilising the same traffic management plan and only digging up the road once.
The new stormwater network planned for Point Chevalier is part of a larger project in Auckland to separate combined networks, where stormwater discharges into the wastewater network. Separating the stormwater from the combined network reduces overflows in wet weather.
The stormwater infrastructure for Point Chevalier Road will include the installation of around 900 metres of pipe and associated stormwater manholes.
